TULSA, Okla. – The wait is finally over as the Oral Roberts volleyball team begins its 2019 season at the 42nd Annual SHSU Invitational inside Johnson Coliseum Aug. 30-31. The Golden Eagles play three matches during the opening weekend starting Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. against Louisiana Tech. A doubleheader Saturday is set for the Golden Eagles taking on Prairie View A&M at 9:30 a.m. before the finale versus host Sam Houston State at 6:30 p.m.

•ORU enters the 2019 campaign predicted to finish fourth in The Summit League standings following a disappointing finish a season ago where it narrowly missed the conference tournament via tiebreaker. With 81 percent of their total kills returning, the Golden Eagles turn to eight previous letter winners for 2019.

•The Golden Eagles have three players to replace in the lineup with the graduation of libero Tori Roe, setter Bria Bergman and outside hitter Lara Picht. Roe was the fourth player in ORU history to reach the 1,500-dig milestone, while Bergman totaled 9.65 assists per set and Picht added 2.30 kills per set.

•ORU will try to build off the emergence of middle blocker Bri Greenlee from 2018 where she posted a career-best 109 total blocks. She became the first Golden Eagle to reach the century mark in blocks since 2013. The senior needs 16 block assists to move into the top 10 in program history.

•Six of the top seven kill leaders from a year ago are back for the navy and gold led by CeCe Madison's 242 kills from 2018. Inka Inkret (211) and Katarina Mikulic (208) also reached the 200-kill mark for ORU in 2018.

•An experienced Louisiana Tech roster returns 13 players for first-year Head Coach Amber McCray with only two newcomers to the lineup. The Lady Techsters dropped their final 13 matches of the 2018 season to end a 6-23 campaign in Conference USA.

•Prairie View A&M turns to four returning starters, three hitters that combined for 673 total kills and its setter, plus nine letter winners for 2019 following a 7-25 record last year.

•The host Bearkats of Sam Houston State were picked third in the Southland Conference polls after a 22-win effort in 2018. Sophomore Breanne Chausse was named to the preseason all-conference second team pacing eight returning letter winners.

•Head Coach Sheera Sirola, ORU's all-time winningest coach, added five newcomers to the roster for 2019, including four freshmen. Kalli Caddell is the lone junior college transfer, while Mackenzie Edwards, Sakira LaCour, Laura Shoopman and Jeslyn Spencer all are set for their first collegiate season.

•The Golden Eagles have reached the conference tournament six of the last seven seasons and will try to utilize 13 home matches to bounce back from only their ninth losing season in program history. It is one of the most challenge schedules to date as more than a third of ORU's slate is against a team that reached the postseason in 2018.
