Intense Comeback Falls Short in Five for ORU Volleyball

TULSA, Okla. – With more than 1,000 people in the crowd for its home opener, the Oral Roberts volleyball team rallied back to force a fifth set with visiting Tulsa Friday night before falling (23-25, 18-25, 25-23, 25-23, 14-16). It was the first of three matches for each squad during the ORU Invitational at the Aerobics Center.

The raucous crowd helped keep the Golden Eagles alive after dropping the first two sets to hold a 12-10 lead in the final set before the visitors turned the tide. Laura Milos was nearly unstoppable all night tallying 32 kills to cross over the 1,900 mark for her ORU career.

Inside the Box Score

  • Milos got off to a hot start with 10 kills in the opening set on her way to the seventh, 30-plus kill performance of her tenure. It was her highest kill total since a 33-kill effort in the 2016 regular season finale against IUPUI.
  • CeCe Madison registered her third double-double of the campaign totaling 15 kills and a career-best 21 digs. Tori Roe added 16 digs and Katarina Mikulic dug up 11.
  • Setters Bria Bergman and Lucija Bojanjac each tallied more than 30 set assists for the night with Bergman pacing the squad with 34, while Bojanjac added 31.
  • The Golden Eagles' block matched their season best with 10 blocks as Bri Greenlee led the charge with three. Milos, Morgan Blomquist and Bergman each added two blocks.
  • ORU posted hitting percentages of .364 and .366 in the third and fourth sets, respectively, to push back on the Golden Hurricane.
  • Emily Thorson led four TU players in double-digit kills recording 18.

The Golden Eagles close their first home tournament since 2009 Saturday with a pair of matches at the Aerobics Center. ORU opens the day facing Central Arkansas (9-1) at 11 a.m. before finishing the event with Wyoming (3-7) at 8 p.m.
