ORU Closes Season in 1-0 loss to SDSU

BROOKINGS, S.D. – A second-half tally proved the difference as the No. 3 seed Oral Roberts women's soccer team ended its 2019 season with a 1-0 loss to No. 2 South Dakota State Thursday night at Fishback Soccer Complex in The Summit League Championship presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare.

The Jackrabbits broke the semifinal deadlock in the 70th minute as they cracked through the ORU back line. Cecilia Limongi was able to redirect a cross for the 1-0 advantage in what turned out to be the game winner.

With temperatures below freezing and snow surrounding the field, the Golden Eagles weathered an early barrage by SDSU in the first 10 minutes as goalkeeper Allison Austin made three saves.

Kelli Keller came up with the two fantastic chances for ORU in the late stages of the first half. The redshirt sophomore rifled a shot from close range in the 30th minute that skimmed just over the top of the crossbar after a perfect through ball from Drishana Pillay.

Less than three minutes later, Keller found herself inside the penalty area and sent a half-volley that the SDSU goalkeeper Maggie Smither barely was able to keep out of the net as both teams entered halftime scoreless.

Austin came up clutch in the 47th minute as the freshman turned aside a point-blank opportunity from the Jackrabbits to keep the match tied, 0-0, before SDSU was able to score the only goal in the 70th minute.

Pillay nearly tallied the equalizer with 14:05 remaining in regulation as she turned on a ball at the top of the box. Her bid nearly snuck inside the near post before being saved to keep ORU off the scoreboard. In the final minutes, Gabrielle Abbey was inches away from tying the game, but after her shot beat the keeper, an SDSU defender cleared the line preserving the victory.

- Austin matched her career high for the third time this season ending the night with nine saves.

- Keller led the Golden Eagles with two of the team's four shots, one of which was on target.

- Jordan Langebartels was held off the scoresheet for the first time in three matches and ends her career fourth all-time in ORU history in goals (21) and eighth in points (53).
