Golden Eagles Prepped for Crucial Summit League Match

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's soccer team will travel to Macomb, Ill., to take on the Western Illinois Leathernecks on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE LEATHERNECKS
Western Illinois enters the match on a four-game losing streak after starting Summit League play 2-0. Amy Andrews leads the offensive fire power for the Leathernecks, the sophomore leads the team in shots (37), points (12) and goals (6). Senior Ines Palmiero Herrera has started all 16 games between the pipes for WIU. The Spaniard has a .789 save percentage, while giving up an average of 1.24 goals per match. Dr. Eric Johnson is in his fourth season leading WIU women's team with a combined record of 15-49-4. Johnson is also the all-time winningest men's soccer coach in Summit League history.

 

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. WESTERN ILLINOIS
Oral Roberts has an all-time series .619 win percentage against WIU, including a 13-8-0 overall record. ORU is 3-5-0 all-time when playing in Macomb, including 1-2-0 in the last three visits. Last time the two teams were pitted against each other, the Golden Eagles defeated the Leathernecks, 3-1, on Oct. 14, 2018, at the Case Soccer Complex.

 

LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Eagles fell short to Omaha to the Mavericks, 2-1. Jordan Langebartels recorded her fifth goal of the season and third goal in the last five matches. Jessica Misquez and Kelli Keller each recorded two shots a piece, while defenders Brooklyn Eardley and Mackenzi Kirschner each played the full 90 minutes.

 

ALL-TIME WATCH LIST
Senior forward Jordan Langebartels recorded her 18th career goal to move up to No. 10 all-time in Oral Roberts history. Langebartels, a Tulsa native, currently has 44 career points, three shy of No. 10 all-time Gentry Detter (2003-06).

 

MISTER ROGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD
Head Coach Roger Bush is back for his seventh season leading the Golden Eagles, after six seasons Bush has a 60-61-12 record at ORU. Student-athletes under Bush have earned 26 all-conference honors, 13 player of the week awards and two have earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. Bush was named the 2016 Summit League Women's Coach of the Year.

 

SUMMIT LEAGUE PRESEASON OUTLOOK

A year after finishing 3-5-0 in league play, the Golden Eagles were picked to finish seventh in the 2019 Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll. Senior midfielder Jordan Langenbartels was one of 13 athletes named to the The Summit League Players to Watch List, Langenbartels led the Golden Eagles with career-highs in goals (7) and points (18) despite only appearing in 15 of 20 matches.

 

SUMMIT LEAGUE CURRENT OUTLOOK
The Golden Eagles are currently sitting in sixth place with five points after starting 1-2-2 in league play. South Dakota State sits atop The Summit with 15 points after starting 5-0-0, followed by Denver in second (10 points), North Dakota in third (nine points) and North Dakota State rounding out the top-4 with eight points. Golden Eagle Langebartels is tied in leading The Summit with three goals and ranks No. 2 with seven points.

 

A SHIFT IN THE SUMMIT
On June 20, 2019, Summit League commissioner Tom Douple announced the addition of the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The Roos are set to join the league on July 1, 2020. A second shift came on August 6, 2019, when Purdue Fort Wayne announced that the Mastodons' final year of competition as a league member will be the 2019-20 academic year. Most recently, The Summit League extended an invitation to the University of St. Thomas. St. Thomas, a current Division III university located in Saint Paul, Minn., has applied for a waiver to make the direct leap from Division III to Division I. If granted, St. Thomas would begin to compete in the Summit League as early as 2021.
