Record: ORU 2-4-1 – UTSA 3-2-1
SAN ANTONIO – In a two overtime match the Oral Roberts women's soccer team battled the UTSA Roadrunners to a 1-1 draw, Friday night at the Park West Athletics Complex.
UTSA came out of the gates early and fast, the Roadrunners netted the first goal of the match in the 10th minute.
Despite the slow start the Golden Eagles responded back with an equalizer in the 27th minute that featured Jordan Langebartels breaking through the defense as she fired a shot that was blocked by the Roadrunners keeper. Fellow teammate Samantha See cleaned up the rebound and drilled the ball into the back of the net for her first career goal as a Golden Eagle.
The second half was as much of a battle as the first half was as both teams continued to put together attacks despite not being able to finish.
ORU saw multiple opportunities late in the second half beginning in the 72nd minute as Langebartels stole the ball from the Roadrunner defense and rifled a missile from 23-yards out that missed just left of the frame.
Shayla Padilla threatened the UTSA defense with an attack of her own in the 81st minute as she fired a shot on frame forcing the Roadrunner keeper to tip it over the cross bar.
Shortly after, the Roadrunners would test freshman keeper Allison Austin one last time in regulation as UTSA attacked from the outside sending a cross into the box before Austin snagged it out of the air. Austin recorded eight saves on the night.
Overtime was a rendition of regulation as both teams continued to battle back and forth and after 110 minutes ending the match in a 1-1 draw.
- ORU recorded eight shots with six on goal.
- Allison Austin recorded a career high .889 save percentage.
- The Golden Eagles are now 0-4-1 when wearing gold uniforms.
- Gabrielle Abbey played all 110 minutes while making her first career start.
The Oral Roberts women's soccer team will continue its travel in Texas as they head east to Beaumont to take on the Lamar Cardinals on Sept. 15, at 1:00 p.m.
