Golden Eagles Host Rice to Open 2019 Regular Season

TULSA, Okla. – The Golden Eagles women's soccer team opens the 2019 regular season playing host to Rice University Thursday, August 22 at 7 p.m., at the Case Soccer Complex.

SCOUTING THE OWLS
Head coach Brian Lee returns seven of 11 starters from the 2018 season that finished 7-9-1. The Owls went 5-4-1 in Conference USA play and qualified for the conference tournament before losing to North Texas in the first round. Owl senior midfielder Lianne Mananquil was one of 61 Division I women's soccer players named to the inaugural MAC Herman Trophy Watch List. Rice was picked to finish third in the C-USA Preseason Coaches' Poll, while Mananquil was selected as a preseason all-conference member.

MR. ROGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD
Head Coach Roger Bush is back for his seventh season leading the Golden Eagles, after six seasons Bush has a 56-53-9 record at ORU. This will be the first time Bush has coached against Rice University. Student-athletes under Bush have earned 26 all-conference honors, 13 player of the week awards and two have earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. Bush was named the 2016 Summit League Women's Coach of the Year.

GOLDEN EAGLES IN SEASON OPENERS
In its 27-year history ORU is 16-10 in season openers, including 5-1 under current head coach Roger Bush. The Golden Eagles have opened the regular season 22 times at home posting a 15-7 record.

ANGRY BIRDS
The Golden Eagles and Owls have only met twice with each team stealing a win on the others home turf. Rice defeated ORU in 2001 2-1, while the Golden Eagles traveled to Houston the following season winning 3-0.

SUMMIT LEAGUE OUTLOOK
A year after finishing 3-5-0 in league play, the Golden Eagles were picked to finish seventh in the 2019 Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll. Senior midfielder Jordan Langenbartels was one of 13 athletes named to the The Summit League Players to Watch List, Langenbartels led the Golden Eagles with career-highs in goals (7) and points (18) despite only appearing in 15 of 20 matches.

LAST TIME OUT
ORU hosted Kansas State in an exhibition match losing 4-1 on Aug. 17. Seven Golden Eagles played 60+ minutes, while six true freshmen made their collegiate debut. Despite being down early, the Golden Eagles found success following a Samantha See goal midway through the first half. The Wildcats ended all hopes of a comeback scoring two goals in the 87th and 88th minute.
