TULSA, Okla. – The Golden Eagles dropped an exhibition match to Kansas State, 4-1, Saturday night at a near capacity Case Soccer Complex.
In what was a highly competitive battle in the first half, the Oral Roberts women's soccer team found themselves down 1-0 when Kansas State's Hannah Davis found the back of the net in the 16th minute.
Despite being down early, the Golden Eagles continued to battle the Big 12 opponent. Jordan Langebartels relentlessly pressured the Wildcat defense as the senior forward found herself coming up just short inside the box.
Kansas State did not let up as the Wildcats found their second scoring opportunity in the 25th minute when Katie Cramer increased the lead 2-0.
After finding themselves down 2-0, the Golden Eagles quickly responded back with a goal of their own in the 28th minute. True freshman Angie Machado controlled the midfield and found fellow teammate Samantha See to put the Golden Eagles on the board trailing 2-1 into the half.
The Golden Eagles momentum carried into the second half as redshirt sophomore Kelli Keller found multiple opportunities in the box as she tallied three shots total on the night.
In the 87th minute the Golden Eagles found their hopes of a comeback deflated as the Wildcats increased their lead 3-1 as Brookelynn Entz scored on a penalty kick, followed by a fourth goal in the 88th minute.
-Seven Golden Eagles played 60+ minutes, including Allison Austin (90), Ellie Chapple (70), Drishana Pillay (69), Nicole Gornell (67), Mackenzi Kirschner (67), Jordan Langebartels (64) and Marina Solberg (61).
-Six true freshmen made their Golden Eagles debut.
"I thought they played hard for each other and that has been their theme all offseason and during the preseason," said head coach Roger Bush. "I think that is going to be a consistent part of who we are, it's going to be our identity...I'm really happy with that and I'm proud of their effort but most proud of the way they played for eachother."
"I was happy with all the freshmen who played tonight," said coach Bush. "I thought all of the young kids that got to play tonight had a good game, I was pleased to see all the freshmen playing confidently and knowing they have the support of their teammates behind them to encourage them and empower them."
The Golden Eagles will open the 2019 season playing host to Rice University on Thursday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m., at Case Soccer Complex. Admission is free.
