ORU Posts Third Straight Shut Out; Topped in PKs in Summit League Championship

FARGO, N.D. – The Oral Roberts women's soccer team posted its third straight clean slate, but was unable to prevail in a penalty kick shootout, falling to South Dakota State 3-2 in the shootout of the Summit League Championship match.

ORU (11-9-2) got four saves from Ryliegh Bohnenstiehl, including a diving save to her right at the end of regulation to force the overtime. Neither team was able to notch a goal during the 110 minutes of action so the Summit League Champion was determined by the shootout.

The Golden Eagles had three (Ryliegh Bohhnenstiehl, Kelli Keller and Nelly Mamabolo) named to the All-Tournament team.

  • ORU ends the season on a seven match unbeaten streak, having won six in a row entering the championship match.
  • Summit League Offensive Player of the Year Lexi Jones finishes her year with 11 goals, the fifth most in ORU history and the most for a Golden Eagle since Hall of Famer Jessica Kellogg had 18 in 2004.
  • Saturday marked the first time since 2004 in which ORU played in the championship match.
  • Brittney Lawrence had two of the Golden Eagles' five shots on the day, while Chloe Basnett had the lone shot on goal.
  • ORU missed its first three penalty kick attempts, but rallied and sent it to the fifth kick.
  • Each team had four corner kicks, with all four of ORU's coming during regulation.
  • SDSU was credited with 14 shots to ORU's 5. Four of the Jackrabbit attacks came in the two overtime periods.
  • ORU was the first four seed to finish as the Summit League Tournament runner-up since 2010 when Western Illinois did so.
