BROOKINGS, S.D. – With four event championships and a meet record to their credit, the Oral Roberts indoor track and field teams both took fourth place overall the Summit League Indoor Championships in Brookings, S.D., at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. The ORU women scored 46 points with the ORU men tallying 88.
Multiple event titles and personal bests characterized the second day of the Summit League Indoor Championships. Kirsten Burnett (triple jump), Jaden Purnell (triple jump), D'Khari Hicks (400 meters), and the men's 4x400 team all took the first in their respective events. Aobakwe Malau had a solid presence Saturday with two personal bests and three top five finishes. Tiffany Richeson also set a personal best in pole vault, clearing a height of 4.09 meters, while Cameron Hilliard set a personal best in the 200 meters.
News & Notes
- The Golden Eagles held three of the top five spots in two different men's events. In the 400 meters Hicks, Omeiza Akerele, and Reinhard Ndlovu took first, third, and fourth, respectively. Hicks and Akerele also took top places in the 200 meters along with Malau, who set a personal best in this event.
- The men's 4x400m relay team of Malau, Hicks, Akerele and Ndlovu combined to run 3:11.27, shattering the old championship record of 3:15.70, which was set by the Golden Eagles back in 2005.
- Mercy Abire and Malau both took fourth and fifth place in their respective 60 meter dash events. Malau also set a personal best in the event.
- Cameron Hilliard also set a personal best Saturday in the 200 meters with a time of 24.54. This time brought her in third in the meet.
