LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Oral Roberts men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2016-17 indoor season picking up a pair of event titles at the Bob Timmons Challenge Friday hosted by the University of Kansas at the Anschutz Sports Pavilion.

Mercy Abire won the long jump in convincing fashion for the Golden Eagle women, while Israel Nelson sprinted to an individual title in the 60-meter hurdles.

News & Notes
- Mercy Abire won the long jump by more than a foot jumping nearly 13 inches farther than the second place finisher.

- Israel Nelson, already the school record holder, picked up right where he left off last spring winning the 60-meter hurdles by four-hundredths of a second.

- ORU women placed five runners inside the top 10 of the one mile run, including places three through six.
