BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A pair of ORU track and field student-athletes earned the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships Saturday in Birmingham, Alabama after finishing the season in the top-16 in their respective events.

Justin Estala entered the weekend with the 15th best mark in the nation in the pole vaults while Israel Nelson was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles.

Coming into the Championships, Estala had won five consecutive events and was coming off a Summit League Indoor Championship. He set a new personal best at the Arkansas Qualifier on Feb. 19 with a height of 5.42 meters (17-9.25) which at the time was 11th nationally

The Paris, Arkansas native recorded a mark of 5.25 meters (17-2.75) Saturday for 10th in the event.

Nelson, a freshman, was up against some of the top talent in the country in the 60-meter event after posting four wins on the season and the best time in the country (7.69) at the Pittsburg State Invitational to close out January.

One of only four freshman in the event, Nelson took 11th overall with a mark of 7.84 seconds. He was the only Summit League participant in the field.

The ORU track and field teams will open their outdoor season next Saturday at the Tulsa Duels.
