ELMHURST, Ill. – Oral Roberts track and field's Israel Nelson was named Summit League Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week after his performance at the Bill Easton Classic over the weekend. Omaha's Stephanie Ahrens earned the honor on the women's side.
Nelson won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.89 seconds, on his way to a new personal best in the event. His mark in the event also has him tied sixth for the best time in the country.
The honor is the first of his career for the sophomore from Post St. Lucier, Fla.
The Golden Eagles do not have a weekend off until after the Summit League Indoor Championships in late february. The team will travel to Fayetteville, Ark. next weekend for the Arkansas Invitational.
