ORU Rallies but Falls to Rutgers

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts men's soccer team rallied back to tie the game, but fell to Rutgers 5-3 Friday evening at the Case Soccer Complex.

The Golden Eagles got behind early in the first half. Vincent Borden scored the first goal for the Scarlet Knights in the 10th minute. Borden headed the ball in to the goal off of an Ethan Decker cross. Decker was credited with the assist.

Rutgers made it 2-0 in the 25th minute when Niel Guzman recovered the ball from a defensive kick out and scored from the left side at 18 yards. His goal was unassisted.

Just before the break, Jorge Barrientos scored his first goal of the season in the 40th minute when he scored from 20 yards out after recovering the ball from a defensive kick out. His goal was unassisted.

The Golden Eagles tied the game 2-2 in the 55th minute off of a Tarik Nicholls header in to the net. Santiago Riveros sent a free kick right for Nicholls who scored his first goal of the season. Riveros was credited with the assist.

Rutger's Ethan Decker scored back-to-back goals to make it a 5-3 Scarlet Knights lead. Decker scored his first goal in the 82nd minute when he received a pass to the center of the field and connected with the back of the net. Decker then scored his second goal of the game three minutes later off of a Miles Hackett cross from the right side that was sent to the middle of the box. Hackett was credited with the assist.

ORU's Santiago Riveros made it a 5-3 game when he scored on a penalty kick. It was Riveros' second goal of the season.
