TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts University men's soccer team is set to host Eastern Illinois at 7 p.m. Saturday in a Summit League matchup at the Case Soccer Complex. Eight seniors will be honored following the match.
There is a lot on the line for ORU (7-7-2, 2-2-1) as a victory could mean a share of the Summit League regular season title. A win would also give ORU its best regular season record since finishing 9-4-2 in 2005.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 3-0 victory in their final non-league match of the season against Central Arkansas on Tuesday. Isaac Fraley and Perry Brooks each scored their first career goal and Johnny Chavez capped off the scoring with his eighth goal of the year.
Chavez's eight goals this season are tops the Summit League, while Alex White, who had an assist on Chavez's goal, is second in the league with six assists.
ORU has scored nine goals in its past four matches. Denver is the only Summit League squad to net nine goals over a four-match stretch this season.
EIU (3-12-1, 1-3-1) is the only team in the league that has been eliminated from tournament contention. The Panthers last win came on October 26 when they shutout IPFW at home, 2-0.
The Panthers are led by senior midfielder Jake Brillhart with five goals and freshman attacker Dominic Recca who has put in four goals. Between the posts, freshman Mike Novotny has seen the majority of the time in goal for the Panthers, allowing 1.6 goals a contest.
EIU leads the all-time series between the two programs 3-5-1. The Panthers got the best of the Golden Eagles in Charleston, Illinois, last season with a 2-1 win in double-overtime with a goal in the final minute.
