TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts University men's soccer team makes its longest road trip of the season on Saturday as the Golden Eagles travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana, to take on IPFW. Kickoff for the Summit League contest is scheduled for 6 p.m. CST.
ORU (4-4-2, 0-1-1) is coming off a 2-0 loss at Missouri State on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles are 1-4-1 on the road this season following the loss to the Bears.
The Golden Eagles' record through ten matches is their best since boasting a 5-4-1 mark through the same span in 2009.
Against IPFW last season in the conference opener, the Golden Eagles rattled off nine shots on goal, defeating the Mastodons 2-1 in overtime. Edgardo Mira provided the equalizer in the match with three seconds remaining, and Matthew Rogers netted the game-winner one minute into the overtime period.
After finishing 1-15-1 last season, IPFW is 3-5-4 overall this year and 1-1 in Summit League play. However, the Mastodons are winless in their previous three matches with 1-0 losses against Bowling Green and at Western Illinois, and a 1-1 draw on Tuesday at Detroit.
Junior forward Austin West is one of the top attacking forwards in the Summit League, entering Saturday's match second in the league with 25 shots and 11 shots on goal. He has a team-high four goals on the season, while Cory Tom has netted three.
The goalkeeping duo of Cody Schweitzer and Raphael Kotzock has allowed 11 goals this season, the second-fewest in the league. Against Detroit in the Mastodons last outing, Kotzock recorded 12 saves for his squad in the match.
ORU leads the all-time series over IPFW, 5-1-2. The only victory by the Mastodons was a 3-1 outcome on September 30, 2011.
