TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts University men's soccer team looks to get back on track on Friday as the Golden Eagles travel to Dallas, Texas, to take on SMU. Kickoff at Prescott Field is scheduled for 5 p.m.
ORU (2-1-1) dropped its first match of the season on Tuesday in a 4-1 loss at Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Matthew Rogers was able to blast a shot into the goal from 30 yards out.
With the best start to a season since 2004, the Golden Eagles entered NSCAA/Continental Tire Division I West Region poll for the first time in recent member at No. 10.
Johnny Chavez leads the scoring for the Golden Eagles with two goals this season, with Rogers, Juan Diego Padilla and Gerardo Salas each netting one goal.
Despite allowing four goals against Tulsa, ORU has allowed the fewest goals in the Summit League at six. Sophomore goalkeeper Ben LaCourse is second in the conference with 26 saves and leads the league with an .812 save percentage.
SMU enters Friday's match with a 2-3 overall mark, after going 1-1 last weekend in the SMU Invitational. In the first match of the weekend, the Mustangs were topped by Missouri State, 1-0, before defeating Stony Brook, 3-1, in the tournament finale.
The Mustangs netted three goals in both of their wins this season. However, they were shutout in each of their three losses.
Junior Idrissa Camara and sophomore Stanton Garcia have each scored two goals to lead the Mustangs on the attack. Redshirt freshman Michael Nelson has started all five matches in goal for the Mustangs, allowing seven goals and pulling in 18 saves.
Friday's match will be the first regular season meeting between the two programs since 2007. The Golden Eagles are winless in the previous five matches against the Mustangs, all played at SMU.
