TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts University men's soccer team makes its first ever trip to San Antonio, Texas, on Sunday as the Golden Eagles are set to face their second Western Athletic Conference opponent in as many matches, Incarnate Word. Kickoff against the Cardinals is scheduled for 1 p.m.
On Friday, ORU finished in a 1-1 draw at Houston Baptist, snapping a five-match losing streak against the Huskies. The Golden Eagles moved to 1-0-1 on the season and are unbeaten in their first two matches since the 2010 season.
A win or a draw on Sunday would give the Golden Eagles their best start through three matches since starting 2-0-1 in 2004.
Johnny Chavez has scored both Golden Eagle goals the season with headers, scoring the game-tying goal in the 52nd minute at HBU on Friday. Alex White earned assists on both Chavez goals this season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ben LaCourse has played well in his first two matches since returning from a season-ending injury last season. After shutting out Missouri State on Monday, helping him to Summit League Defensive Player of the Week honors, LaCourse pulled in a career-high nine saves against the Huskies on Friday.
UIW is 0-2 on the season after dropping matches at Missouri State, 1-0, and Central Arkansas, 2-1. Junior midfielder Noah Keats scored the lone goal of the opening weekend against UCA.
After finishing the season 6-8-1 in its first season in NCAA Div. I as an Independent, UIW has been tabbed to finish seventh in its first WAC campaign.
UIW's tie a season ago came in a scoreless draw at the Case Soccer Complex against the Golden Eagles. The Cardinals won the only previous meeting between the two programs in on September 8, 1991, in a tournament in Fort Worth, Texas.
