ELMHURST, Ill. - Oral Roberts University sophomore goalkeeper Ben LaCourse has been honored by the Summit League as the men's soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
LaCourse was spectacular in the Golden Eagles' regular season opener on Monday as he recorded five saves and his first shutout of the season in a 1-0 win over Missouri State in double-overtime. The Tulsa native had one of the highlights of the match, making a diving snag to his left in the 78th minute to keep the Bears from breaking the scoreless tie.
Denver sophomore Eric Kronenberg was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week. ORU senior Johnny Chavez was nominated for the offensive award after delivering the golden goal in the 104th minute against MSU.
ORU will be back in action on Friday as they play the first of two contests in south Texas against Houston Baptist. The Golden Eagles close the Texas trip on Sunday with a showdown at Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
