ORU picked to finish fourth; Denver tabbed to repeat

ELMHURST, Ill. - Following a second place finish last season, the Oral Roberts University men's soccer team has been picked to finish fourth in the Summit League by the league's coaches. ORU finished the 2013 season with a league mark of 3-2-1 and was 6-8-4 overall, ending the season in second place, the highest finish in league play since the 2005 season.

The Golden Eagles received 21 points in the pole, 15 points behind Denver (13-3-4, 6-0-0) who was tabbed to repeat as league champions. Omaha (6-9-1, 3-3-0) and Western Illinois (6-13-0, 3-3-0), who finished tied for third behind ORU last season, were picked second and third, respectively. Omaha received 29 points and WIU earned 28 points in the poll.

DU earned six of the seven first place votes by the coaches, with Omaha receiving one. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.

IUPUI (2-12-5, 2-2-2) was picked to finish behind ORU in fifth place, while Eastern Illinois (1-14-2, 1-4-1) edged Fort Wayne (1-15-1, 1-5-1) for the sixth spot.

The Golden Eagles finish their preseason schedule on Friday as they host USAO at the Case Soccer Complex at 5:45 p.m. for an exhibition match. The regular season begins on August 29 at Central Arkansas, with the home opener slated for September 1 against Missouri State.
