TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts University men's soccer team is set for its final tune-up of the preseason on Friday afternoon as the Golden Eagles host USAO in an exhibition match. Kickoff at the Case Soccer Complex is set for 5:45 p.m., followed by the women's regular season opener against Utah at 8.
ORU was victorious in its exhibition opener last Friday, a 1-0 win over NAIA National Tournament quarterfinalist Oklahoma Wesleyan. Edgardo Mira had the game-winner in the 48th minute, netting a goal from the top right of the penalty area. Gerardo Salas earned the assist on the goal.
After missing the final 10 matches of 2013 due to injury, sophomore goalkeeper Ben LaCourse's first match back was successful, as he held OKWU scoreless and collected three saves.
Mira was one of four Golden Eagles to be named Preseason All-Summit League by College Sports Madness. Earning first team honors were two members of the ORU backline, Wayne Farmer and Trevor Laffoon, while fellow midfielder Alex White joined Mira on the second team.
Preseason No. 17 in the NAIA, USAO finished 2013 with a 15-5-0 overall record, falling to Missouri Valley College in double-overtime in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament. The Drovers won both the Sooner Athletic Conference regular season championship and tournament championship last season.
Leading the offensive charge for the Drovers is junior All-American Liam Madden. The reigning SAC Player of the Year, Madden scored 10 goals to lead the Drovers, and finished in the top-50 in the NAIA with nine assists.
ORU and USAO have never faced each other on the pitch in regular season action.
