TULSA, Okla. - College Sports Madness recently announced its Preseason All-Summit League teams, featuring four Oral Roberts University men's soccer players. Seniors Trevor Laffoon and Wayne Farmer were listed on the first team, while Alex White and Edgardo Mira received second team nods.
Following a season in which the defense allowed just 21 goals, the fewest in program history, two of the four defenders on the first team were from ORU. Both Laffoon and Farmer anchored a Golden Eagle backline that was second in the league in goals allowed in 2013.
Laffoon, a native of Norman, Okla., was named to the league's official all-conference second team last season, while Farmer, a native of Knighton, Wales, was honored on the all-newcomer team.
CSM preseason second team members Mira and White combined for half the Golden Eagle goals last season. A sophomore midfielder from San Salvador, El Salvador, Mira led the team with four goals. White, also a midfielder and Tigard, Ore., native, netted three goals during his sophomore campaign.
The four preseason honorees helped the Golden Eagles (6-8-4, 3-2-1) to a second place finish in the league, the program's highest finish since 2005.
Following a 1-0 victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan in its first exhibition match of 2014, ORU will complete its preseason schedule on Friday at 5:45 p.m. against USAO at the Case Soccer Complex. The Golden Eagles open the regular season on the road at Central Arkansas on August 29, and play their regular season home opener on September 1 as they host Missouri State.
