Pair Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. – Two Oral Roberts men's golfers were named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, it was announced by the GCAA Wednesday. Both having just finished their senior seasons, Scott Newell and Parker Dolezal were among those recognized by the organization.

Newell earned the distinction for the second year in a row after an outstanding final campaign. Newell will leave ORU with his name scattered throughout the ORU record books, including his 73.2 stroke average this season which was the best since 2000-01, and the fifth best in program history. Three of the four years, Newell posted a season average that was in the top 20 in school history. Newell has a 3.37 GPA in accounting, and as a senior had four top five finishes, including a runner-up finish at The Summit League Championship.

Dolezal earned the honor after a standout senior season, including a career-best 67 at the Jackrabbit Invitational. He also shot a 68 at the Jim West Intercollegiate and finished the year second on the team with a 74.0 stroke average, 13th best in ORU program history. Dolezal's top finish was fourth at The Summit League Championship, and he tied for 10th overall in ORU's victory at the Derek Dolenc/SIUE Invitational.  Dolezal carried a 3.75 GPA with a major in business and was also named to The Summit League's All-Academic team.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
