Lara, Starkey Join ORU Men's Golf Program

TULSA, Okla.  – After signing three in the fall, the Oral Roberts men's golf team has added two more for the 2015-16 season, signing Dominic Lara and Will Starkey.

Lara will transfer to ORU from Hutchinson Community College in Kansas where he helped lead his team to the 2014 Regional Championship. He was a first team PING All-District selection and earned second team All-Jayhawk Conference accolades. He was ranked in the top five in his NJCC district and 14th overall in NJCC by GolfStat. Lara chose ORU over Utah, Southern Illinois and Creighton because he "wants to help build the ORU golf program to national prominence and get a great education in the process." At Circle High School in El Dorado, Kansas, Lara was a three-time All-State golfer and was the 2013 league champion. In addition to playing golf, he also earned three letters as a member of the basketball team.

Coach Lance Watson on Lara
"Dominic had a great fall and was ranked as one of the 15 junior college players in the nation, that really showed us that he can play at a high level. He has struggled some this spring but we are looking forward to watching him develop his game and take it to higher levels. He is strong and athletic and we know he will be one of the hardest workers on the team; with our facilities and his passion, the sky is the limit for him."

Starkey will come to ORU as a freshman from Adelaide, Australia. Recently, Starkey was named the National Scouting Report's Prospect of the Month after winning the South Australia Junior Amateur Championship in a sudden death playoff. Starkey shot a 68 in the second round of that tournament to aid his cause. During the 2014 NSW Junior Amateur, Starkey made an albatross (3 under) on the 14th hole, holing out from 236 yards out. In addition to golf, Starkey has also played cricket, football and run track.

Coach Lance Watson on Starkey
"Will is part of the South Australian State team and recently won the SA Junior Masters, he is a late bloomer but has a huge passion for golf and an unrelenting desire to get better. I am expecting him to come in from Day One and be a force to be reckoned with! Superb golf swing and hits it long, we are looking forward to watching many rounds in the 60's from him!"

ORU held the 18 and 36 hole leads and finished second at the Summit League Championship this season.
