Named to the All-Southland Conference third team … led the team with a 73.8 stroke average, the 11th best in ORU history … tied David Holtgrewe and Parker Dolezal for the most rounds played, playing in all but the Southland Conference Championship after withdrawing with back spasms … posted six of the team’s nine rounds under par and was the only Golden Eagle to finish a tournament under par, shooting 69-72-67 to finish at -5 (208) at the Harold Funston Invitational, taking third individually in the tournament … had three top-10 finishes and two top-5 finishes, including a tie for third at the ULM Wallace Jones Invitational … was the top ORU finisher in five tournaments.
Earned honorable mention all-conference honors ... Led the team with a 74.8 stroke average ... played in all 29 rounds for ORU and led the team in four of the 10 tournaments ... best round was a 68 (par 71) at the Arkansas RedWolves Intercollegiate ... best tournament was a +1 (214) at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate ... finished tied for ninth at the Carter Plantation Invitational.
Earned Summit League Newcomer of the Championship and All-Tournament honors after leading ORU with third-place overall finish ... shot his two best rounds of the season in the conference championship, carding a 69 in the first round and a 68 in the final round ... final score of 208 (-5) was the lowest by any ORU golfer and his first tournament under par ... played 24 rounds as a freshman and averaged 74.4 strokes per round, third on the team but just 0.1 strokes back of teammate Shannon Allen.
Helped lead his Cinco Ranch HS team to a district and regional championship ... also earned all-state honors for Coach Richard Nordstrom.
Son of David Newell and Donna Newell ... majoring in accounting at ORU ... came to ORU because it is a great Christian school with great academics.
