Obanor Named Freshman All-American

Full Release from

TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts freshman Kevin Obanor has been named a finalist for the 2019 Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year Award, it was announced Monday by College Insider. Additionally, Obanor was named to the 2019 Kyle Macy Freshmen All-America team by the same organization.

Obanor, who was named The Summit League Freshman of the Year and named to the All-Summit League second team, becomes ORU's first Freshman All-American since Steven Roundtree in 2010-11.

During his rookie campaign with the Golden Eagles, Obanor posted the sixth highest scoring average (14.9 points per game) and the seventh highest rebounding average (7.4 rebounds per game) for a freshman in ORU history. He led ORU in scoring and was one of just four players in The Summit League to rank in the top 10 in both scoring and rebounding. His career high 31 points earned him Summit League Player of the Week honors, and was the third highest scoring total by a freshman in ORU history. He finished the season scoring 15 or more points in 14 of the final 17 games of the season and had eight or more rebounds in 13 games during the same stretch.

The award is named after Kyle Macy. The 1975 Indiana "Mr. Basketball" played his freshman season at Purdue University, averaging 13.8 points per game while leading the Boilermakers in free throws (85.9 percent for the season). He started in 25 of 27 games, helping them to a 16-11 season record.

The recipient of the 2019 Kyle Macy award will be announced on April 5 at the College Insider Awards Event, in Minneapolis, site of the 2019 NCAA division I basketball championship.
