TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts freshman Emmanuel Nzekwesi was a force all season, and was honored for his efforts after the year, earning Summit League Freshman of the Year honors. Nzekwesi's rookie season is #15 on the #TopORUMoments countdown for the 2016-17 school year.
Nzekwesi was the first Golden Eagle to earn rookie of the year honors since 2010-11, when Steven Roundtree was league's top newcomer. Nzekwesi was also selected to represent his home country of The Netherlands at the FIBA U20 Championships over the summer.
The ORU frosh was in the top 30 in the league in scoring and field goal percentage, and was the top freshman in double-doubles (5), scoring (9.8 ppg) and rebounding (6.4 rpg). His 17 rebounds against Rogers State were tied for the second most by anyone in the Summit League this season. He scored a career high 21 points with 13 rebounds against Michigan State and scored 20 points with 14 rebounds against Ole Miss. He was one of two Golden Eagles to start every game this season, finishing fourth on the team in scoring and was the leading rebounder for the season.
This is the first of 15 editions of the #TopORUMoments from 2016-17 as selected by the ORU Media Relations Department and a social media poll.
