Summit League Announces 2016-17 League Slate

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Summit League announced its 2016-17 men's basketball schedule today with each of the nine teams slated to play a 16-game double round-robin schedule beginning Wednesday, Dec. 28.

  • 72 total league games, starting Dec. 28 and ending Feb. 25
  • Each team plays 16 games, facing every team both home-and-away
  • South Dakota State hosts North Dakota State in championship game rematch on opening night
  • South Dakota (Dec. 29) and North Dakota State (Dec. 31) each play Omaha in the first Summit League games at their new arenas
  • Regular-season co-champions meet for first time on Jan. 21 (Fort Wayne at South Dakota State)

The schedule tips off with a rematch of the 2016 Summit League Tournament Title Game when champion South Dakota State hosts North Dakota State. Also on opening night, Denver hosts Oral Roberts.

After playing the first three league games on the road, ORU will return home January 12 to host South Dakota State as part of a stretch where the Golden Eagles will play six of seven contests in the Mabee Center.

The 2017 Summit League Men's Basketball Championship is set for March 4-7 at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Celebrating its 35th season of Division I athletics, The Summit League features men's basketball teams from nine member institutions: Denver, Fort Wayne, IUPUI, North Dakota State, Omaha, Oral Roberts, South Dakota, South Dakota State and Western Illinois. In 2015-16, The Summit League finished with an all-time best No. 12 RPI ranking, its fifth consecutive top-20 season, and set season standards for overall and mid-major winning percentage, road and power five victories.  Called "March's Best-Kept Secret" by USA Today, The Summit League Basketball Championships again posted record-setting attendance figures and finished eighth among all Division I men's basketball for average session attendance. This season's event returns to the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D., March 4-7, 2017.
