TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts University men's basketball team started the season in style, winning the PSO Mayor's Cup with a 74-68 victory over Tulsa at the Reynolds Center on November 10.
In addition to beating their crosstown rival for the first time since 2007, it set the Golden Eagles to a 1-0 start for the first time since the same season and the first season-opening road win since 1981.
ORU out-rebounded the Golden Hurricane 45-28 and got 19 points from Obi Emegano, who went 13-14 from the free throw line. Shawn Glover scored 10-straight points in the second half and finished with 16 points for the game, while Korey Billbury had 13 points and eight rebounds in the game.
After falling behind 58-57, ORU went on a 7-0 run to take a 64-58 lead, and was able to hold on for the victory, never allowing the lead to dip below four the rest of the way.
ORU went on to win the 2013 Cancun Challenge Mayan Division Championship, and posted a winning season (17-16) for the 13th consecutive year.
