TULSA, Okla. – Isaac Coffey from the Oral Roberts baseball team landed his second All-America honor of 2019 as he was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division I Freshman All-American First Team, the organization announced Monday.
Coffey is one of 32 standout freshmen college baseball players from every part of the country as the 2019 NCBWA Freshman All-American Team features players from 30 different schools and 16 different conferences.
The Goleta, California, native was selected for his two-way efforts with the Golden Eagles landing the utility player spot. An All-Summit League First Team honoree, Coffey led the conference's freshmen in home runs (6), RBI (32) and slugging percentage (.472). His 3.82 ERA on the mound was the top for ORU's starting pitchers, while he tossed a five-hit, shutout in his final outing during the 2019 Summit League Championship May 24.
Coffey adds his name to an exclusive list of Golden Eagles as just the 12th to ever earn First Team Freshman All-America status and the first since Matt Whatley in 2015.
The Freshman All-American team is voted upon by the membership of the NCBWA. The 2019 NCBWA National Freshman Player of the Year and National Freshman Pitcher of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 11.
