TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts senior pitcher Josh McMinn had his name selected in the 27th round of the 2019 Major League Baseball First Year Draft as the 812th overall pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday.
McMinn, a former 36th-round selection of the Minnesota Twins in 2017, earned All-Summit League honors for the third-consecutive year in 2019 landing on the second team this season. He finished second in The Summit League totaling seven wins in the fourth-most innings pitched working 91 for the year to lead ORU.
The Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, product struck out 92 opposing hitters during the 2019 campaign, including a career-best 11 at home against North Dakota State. He added a 10-strikeout performance in his final outing with the Golden Eagles in the Summit League Championship.
He closed his tenure with the navy and gold ranked in the top five for career strikeouts (291), games started (48) and innings pitched (322), while also being in the top 10 in wins (28) and games pitched (71). McMinn joins former ORU players Kyler Stout (2018) and Brendan Duffy (2008) in being selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
McMinn joined Spencer Henson, a ninth-round selection, in the 2019 draft class from the Golden Eagles as the program has had 138 players taken all-time.
