OMAHA, Neb. – Three solo home runs for the Oral Roberts baseball team provided the scoring as it dropped a 13-3 game on the road at Omaha Thursday afternoon from Seymour Smith Park.
The Golden Eagles launched solo shots from Spencer Henson in the fourth, Blake Hall in the fifth and Andrew Pace in the seventh. The first two long balls helped ORU cut the Mavericks margin down to 4-2.
Omaha used a seven-run bottom of the fifth for a commanding advantage before a sac fly in the sixth made it a 10-run margin.
Quote of the Day
"I thought we handled the Omaha pitcher well. We knew he wasn't going to walk a lot of guys, so we had to get some hits. I thought we hit some balls hard and we only punched out two times, which is a good sign, but we have to pitch better tomorrow." - Head Coach Ryan Folmar
With two outs and no runs scored in the bottom of the fifth inning, a routine ground ball skipped off the lip of the grass in front of home plate scoring a pair of Omaha runners in scoring position. The Mavericks took advantage of the two-out bounce by drawing two bases-loaded walks before a bases-clearing double made it a seven-run frame for the home side.
