TULSA, Okla. – In nail-biting fashion, the Oral Roberts baseball team held on to an early three-run lead taking down Oklahoma Tuesday night, 3-2, at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

The Golden Eagles finished off the season series sweep against the Sooners for the first time since 2014 by executing in clutch situations on the mound leaving 14 opposing runners on base. The home side stranded the bases loaded in three different innings, including the final frame.

Three RBI singles in the first four innings staked ORU to an early 3-0 advantage and tagged OU starting pitcher Ben Abram with his first collegiate loss as the freshman entered the night a perfect 6-0.

Oklahoma scored twice in the fifth and thought it plated the tying run in the eighth as Brandon Zaragoza walked with one out and later stole second, but an errant throw allowed him to reach third. He was waved home and an alert defense aided by a strong throw from ORU's Anthony Martinez got to catcher Riley Keizor in time to make a perfect tag ending the inning. The call was confirmed via replay maintaining the one-run edge for the Golden Eagles.

Trevor McCutchin picked up the win from the bullpen as the senior shut down the Sooners over 2.1 innings giving up only one hit. Spencer Henson kept things interesting in the ninth inning as OU loaded the bases with one out before the junior stranded the tying run at third base to close out the win before a post-game fireworks show at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

Quote of the Day

"That's the kind of thing you except from a guy who has been here a while. Spencer didn't lose his composure, kept calm and made some pitches. I thought he threw the ball well and we liked what we saw." – Head Coach Ryan Folmar
