TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts baseball held No. 14 Oklahoma State to three base hits on its way to a 3-1 victory over the Cowboys Tuesday night at J.L. Johnson Stadium. The win notched the clubs seventh straight win and fifth win against a ranked opponent this season. 

The Golden Eagles (33-16) scored two runs in the first before adding an insurance run in the fifth to stave off the Cowboys. 

Rolando Martinez led the way at the plate for Oral Roberts, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBI. Leadoff man Nick Rotola also finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Freshman Trevor McCutchin (3-2) tallied his third win of the season after three innings of shutout baseball. McCutchin, an Owasso, Oklahoma native, stuck out three of the 12 batters he faced.

Josh McMinnEvan EubanksGrant Glaze and Brady Womacks also recorded time out of the bullpen and did not allow a run. Womacks, a junior right-hander, recorded his 12th save of the season as he closed out the game.

OSU (32-18) managed just three hits in the contest, one of those a solo home run by Dustin Williams, as the Cowboys were held to one run for the third time in their last four games. In total, OSU left nine runners stranded on the basepaths in the game.

Sophomore Nick Roark kicked things off in the first with a one-out single up the middle. He would move into scoring position following a six-pitch walk to Noah Cummings. Martinez then drove in Roark on a bloop single to center. Trent Shelton collected RBI number four of the season when drove in Cummings later in the inning. 

Martinez, a Bakersfield, California product, extended the Oral Roberts lead to 3-0 in the fifth when he drove in Rotola for his second RBI of the night.  

OSU would break up the Golden Eagle no-hitter in the fifth when Williams sent a ball over the right field wall for the only run of the night for the Cowboys. 

The loss went to Tyler Buffett, who made just his second start of the season. He fell to 6-2 on the year after allowing two runs in one inning on the mound. 


  • The Golden Eagles close the gap in the all-time series with the win, trailing OSU by just one game at 34-33. ORU has won four-straight games over the Cowboys.
  • Oral Roberts has not lost a game to Oklahoma State at J.L. Johnson since the 1995 season.
  • Head Coach Ryan Folmar is now 5-2 against the Cowboys in his career.
  • The win marks the fifth time ORU has defeated a ranked team this season.
  • ORU finishes the season 4-1 against BIG 12 competition.

The Golden Eagles will wrap up Summit League play on Thursday when the team travels to Omaha for a three-game set with the Mavericks. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Ballpark at Boys Town.
