DALLAS - The Oral Roberts baseball team fell to No. 26 Dallas Baptist, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at Horner Ballpark. Dallas Baptist used twelve base hits, including two doubles to secure the victory.
Redshirt senior Nick Wood picked up the Saturday start for the Golden Eagles for the second consecutive weekend. The right-hander held the Patriots at bay early on, allowing just one base hit in the first three innings of play.
DBU (4-2) broke through in the fourth for a run after Dallas Baptist recorded three hits, including a double by Austin Listi to start the inning. Listi finished his day 4-for-5 with an RBI.
The Golden Eagles (2-3) answered in the fifth inning after Trevin Sonnier beat out an infield single to later be driven home on an RBI double by Mason Mantle. DBU answered the Oral Roberts run to tie the ballgame with a run of their own in the bottom half of the frame. Listi drove in the go-ahead run.
DBU would not be challenged until the ninth inning when the Golden Eagles loaded the bases with a pair of walks and a single, but were unable to capitalize.
The Patriots tacked on two unearned runs in the sixth as well as a pair of runs in the seventh and eighth to extend their lead.
Wood fell to 0-1 on the season after the five and a third inning outing. In two games the Los Alamitos, California native has allowed just three runs in 10 and a third innings.
Originally slated as the Sunday starter for DBU, Darick Hall earned his first win of the season.
- The Golden Eagles were outhit, 12-6 on the day, leaving seven runners on base.
- Mantle finished the day 2-3 and recorded hits in his first two at bats of the season, including an RBI double to put ORU on the board.
- DBU finished the game 7-of-25 with runners on base and 4-of-18 with runners in scoring position.
- The Patriots scored at least one run from the fourth to eighth innings.
ORU will play the rubber game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m. at Horner Ballpark. Lefty Taylor Varnell will get the nod for the Golden Eagles.
