TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts University baseball team and Golden Eagle Club celebrated a record breaking night during their annual Diamond Dinner with over 400 in attendance last Friday at the Glenpool Conference Center. 2015 AL Cy Young winner and gold glove recipient Dallas Keuchel served as the events keynote speaker.
"This is a blessing to have somebody gracious enough like Dallas that is getting torn in so many different directions at this time of year to take time and come and help us raise a little bit of money," ORU Head Coach Ryan Folmar said. "That shows you a lot about Oklahomans and how they kind of pull for their own. It's special to have a local guy here in town who has been so successful to take time out and come see us."
Folmar also announced the "ORU Baseball Turf Project" with the goal of replacing the infield at J. L. Johnson stadium with artificial turf. The project will help keep J.L. Johnson stadium and ORU's baseball facilities on par with many of the top Division I programs in the country.
"There is a tremendous amount of momentum in this program and you can really feel it at an event like this. From our players, parents, fans, and alumni, the excitement continues to build," said Assistant Athletic Director of Development Tim Johnson. "Record breaking nights like the Diamond Dinner and special projects like turfing the infield will continue to help ensure that ORU baseball is at the top of the Summit league."
The 2016 season opens February 19th against Indiana State in Little Rock Arkansas. The team will open play at J.L. Johnson Stadium the following Tuesday when they play host to Wichita State at 3 p.m. You can purchase tickets here or by calling 918-495-7ORU (7678).
