TULSA, Okla - The 2016 Golden Eagles open fall practice on Thursday at J.L. Johnson Stadium beginning at 2:30 p.m. Fall practice continues through November and concludes with three Blue & Gold scrimmages from November 5-7. Practices are open to the public.
Fourth year head coach Ryan Folmar will look to build on the program's 25th NCAA tournament appearance while welcoming 19 newcomers to this year's team including 11 transfers and eight true freshmen.
"We are excited to start our full squad workouts," said Folmar. "We have a good group of players that return but it is crucial for us to integrate the new players in our program into the style of play that we want."
"Our goal for the fall is pretty simple and that is to make sure we take advantage of each opportunity we have, every day," he noted. "It is an exciting time and we can't wait to get started."
Among the top returning players is sophomore Matt Whatley. Whatley became just the 14th Golden Eagle to earn Freshman All-America honors and the first to do so since 2012 when Jose Trevino earned the honor. He led ORU in hitting with a .355 average earning Summit League Newcomer of the Year honors and First Team All-Summit League accolades at catcher.
Full details regarding the team's Blue & Gold games will be released at a later date.
