TULSA, Okla. – With a total of 11 players on the current roster playing in summer baseball leagues, a pair of Golden Eagles (Nick Rotola and Matt Whatley) have been selected to play on the Coastal Plain League Select Team.
Rotola and Whatley, both of whom are spending the summer with the Wilmington Sharks, and the rest of the CPL Select team will take on the USA Collegiate National Team Wednesday afternoon. Rotola, who was selected as a starter for the game, has been on fire during the summer, leading the top of the Sharks' order with a .417 batting average and a .517 on-base percentage. He has stolen 20 bases and scored 20 runs in just four weeks.
Whatley, who earned freshman All-American honors after his rookie season with ORU, is slated as a backup catcher behind North Carolina State junior Chance Shepard. Whatley is hitting .241 in 11 games with four RBIs.
