TULSA, Okla. - Oral Roberts freshman catcher Matt Whatley was named second team Freshman All-American by Baseball America, when the publication released its postseason teams Monday afternoon.
This marks the second Freshman All-America team Whatley has been named to since the conclusion of the 2015 season. He was also named Freshman All-American by both Collegiate Baseball.
In addition to the Freshman All-America team, the Claremore, Okla. native also earned Summit League Newcomer of the Year honors and First Team All-Summit League accolades behind the plate.
Whatley led ORU in hitting with a .355 average. His 44 RBI were second most among the Golden Eagles and finished the season with a .528 slugging percentage and .437 on base percentage. He had a team high 56 runs scored which also ranked in the top 50 nationally adding, three triples and 16 stolen bases.
