Scott Higgins joined the ORU athletic department in February, 2000, after a three-year stint as a sports anchor for KOTV, Channel 6. In all, Higgins spent 13 years as a sportscaster in Joplin, Missouri; Las Vegas, and Tulsa before transitioning to collegiate athletics. Among the highlights he covered were UNLV’s national basketball championship, heavyweight title fights, and more than a dozen college football bowl games. In Las Vegas and Tulsa, he won Associated Press awards for best reporting. Higgins was also the play-by-play voice of the AFL’s Tulsa Talons during their inaugural season.
At ORU, Higgins oversees the athletic department’s marketing efforts, including sponsorship sales, ticketing, advertising, broadcasting agreements, and game operations. He is also the game manager for ORU baseball games and a member of the Golden Eagle Club board of directors.
As part of his duties, Higgins hosts the “ORU Sports Report” television show, airing weekly during the basketball season on KGEB in Tulsa and worldwide on ORU’s digital platforms. He sometimes calls ORU basketball games on television, hosts the Paul Mills and Misti Cussen radio shows, and performs public address announcer duties at ORU baseball games.
Higgins is a former conference representative for the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators and member of the Rotary Club of Tulsa. He is a longtime Tulsa resident who graduated from Jenks High School and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in Radio/TV/Film – News and Public Affairs.
Higgins married the former Dawn Burmaster in 1987. They live in Tulsa and have three adult sons, Troy, Sean, and Ryan.
