TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts University Athletics Department recently held the 2019 ELI Awards Banquet to honor its student-athletes who had excelled in competition, in the classroom and in the community.

ORU recognized student-athletes who had earned Summit League Player of the Year, All-Academic or All-America honors. At the end of the night, four student-athletes were selected as the 2018-19 Whole Person Champions; Lakota Beatty (women's basketball), Bryce Choate (track & field), Tori Roe (volleyball) and Cody Burrows (men's golf).

The women's basketball team captured the Carter Cup for their work in the community and the classroom.

Associate A.D. Kyle Jones gave out his Eli Awards for Academic Excellence, which went to:
Tori Roe (volleyball)
Lara Picht (volleyball)

A new award was given out at this year's banquet—the Terry Unruh Outstanding Faculty Award—that was presented to its namesake, Terry Unruh, who was surprised with the fact that the award would be named after him.

Other awards given out on the night included the Varsity Club Award (Glenn "Smitty" Smith), Breakout Athlete of the Year (Kevin Obanor, men's basketball), Comeback Athlete of the Year (Lakota Beatty, women's basketball), All In Award (Tatum Grigsby, women's soccer and Alex Schmitz, baseball), the Iron Eagle Award (Josh Tabla, track & field and Keni Jo Lippe, women's basketball) and the InstaFame Award (Baye Mayberry, women's soccer).

The night concluded with two awards that were decided by a live twitter vote during the event. Brad Dormeus (track & field) won Best Dressed Student-Athlete and Jaden Purnell (track & field) earning All-American honors was named the Top Sports Moment of the Year.
