ORU Announces Capital Campaign for Tennis

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts University Athletic Department announced the launch of a capital campaign for the new "Bernis Duke Tennis Center" at the ONEOK Sports Complex on the ORU campus.

Hall of Fame member Bernis Duke served as ORU's tennis coach for 33 years. Coach Duke's teams won 563 matches for a .714 winning percentage. He was inducted in to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Hall of Fame in 2002 and the ORU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010. He retired in 1999 as the sixth winningest coach in NCAA Division I history.

"We have already received plenty of interest from not only our tennis alumni, but also the local tennis community in support of this project," Senior Associate Athletic Director Scott Higgins said. "People realize what an icon Bernis Duke is and want to honor his legacy at ORU."

The campaign will provide many critical items needed for the ORU men's and women's tennis programs to function at the highest level. The project will include two phases.

Phase one will fund essential equipment for the facility and a recognition plaque to honor Coach Duke that will be displayed outside the center courts of the facility.

Phase two will provide funding for a new digital scoreboard, camera and internet equipment to train ORU student-athletes and stream tennis events around the world.

To honor Coach Bernis Duke and to donate to The Bernis Duke Tennis Center capital campaign, contact ORU Senior Associate Athletic Director Tim Johnson at 918-495-7951 or visit and give to "ORU Acin' Eagles Tennis."
