Abire Jumps to All-America Honors at NCAA Championship

EUGENE, Ore. –Sophomore Mercy Abire posted a mark of 6.27m (207) in the long jump to finish 13th overall, earning second team All-America honors, Thursday, at the NCAA Championships at Historic Hayward Field.   

News and Notes
- ORU earned two spots in the NCAA Championship meet, with Abire and Israel Nelson (110-meter hurdles) each finishing 13th to earn second team All-America honors.  

- Abire was the fourth highest underclassmen in the event, behind freshmen from Georgia and Texas A&M, and a fellow sophomore from Oregon.  

- ORU's All-American duo gives the Golden Eagles 49 All-Americans from the track and field program since 1999.

- Abire's jump marked the end of the collegiate season for the Golden Eagles, who finished the year with a pair of All-Americans, and hosted the first ever outdoor track meet on campus at the ONEOK Sports Complex.

- ORU set a total of eight school records this season; men's indoor triple jump (Jaden Purnell, 15.63m), men's 110m hurdles (Nelson, 13.81), men's outdoor triple jump (Purnell, 15.57m), women's 60m dash (Aniekeme Etim, 7.35), women's 60m hurdles (Sasha Wells, 8.55), women's outdoor 200m dash (Etim, 23.20), women's outdoor long jump (Abire, 6.33m) and the women's 4x100m relay (Kirsten Burnett, Etim, Abire, Kayvon Stubbs, 45.19).
