Men's Golf Picked Third in Preseason Poll; Biata Named to Preseason Watch List

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Oral Roberts men's golf team was picked to finish the season third, it was announced Friday as The Summit League revealed its 2018 men's golf preseason poll and watch list. South Dakota was picked to win the league, while Denver was picked second.

This marks the first time since joining the league that the Coyotes are the men's golf preseason favorites. In total, the 'Yotes rounded up 46 points and four first-place tallies compared to No. 2 Denver's 44 points. The Pioneers received the remaining four first-place votes.

Oral Roberts slides into the No. 3 spot on the league poll with 32 points, followed by North Dakota State in fourth (29) and two-time defending champion South Dakota State in fifth (25). Western Illinois and Fort Wayne tied for sixth with 17 points apiece and Omaha rounded out the poll in eighth with 12 points.

  • This is the first time South Dakota has been voted the men's golf preseason favorites since joining The Summit League
  • Since the 2008 season, the men's preseason No. 1 has gone onto win the league championship four times (2011, 2013, 2014, 2016)
  • Four of the seven 2017 All-Tournament honorees return to Summit League action this spring: Cody Burrows (Oral Roberts), Drew Eaton (Western Illinois), Alejandro Restrepo (South Dakota State) and Zach Schroeder (Fort Wayne)
