VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota offense connected on 55 percent of its shots and got the best of the Oral Roberts men's basketball team, 82-70, Wednesday night at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.

Sam Kearns poured in 18 points on a 7-10 shooting effort and dished out a career best nine assists, the most by a Golden Eagle this season. Kearns led a cast of four double-digit scorers for ORU, including Emmanuel Nzekwesi and Austin Ruder who each had 12 points, and Jontray Harris who scored 11, five of which came from the free throw line.

South Dakota got 19 points from Matt Mooney, 14 points from Tyler Hagedorn, 13 from Tyler Peterson and 11 each from Nick Fuller and Triston Simpson.

ORU out-rebounded the Coyotes 27-25, but held just a 5-4 edge in second chance points.

Turning Point
ORU had a 22-21 lead after a Harris 3-pointer, but USD out-scored ORU 13-2 over the next four minutes to grab an 11-point advantage.

Individual Leaders
Oral Roberts: Kearns led the ORU offense with 18 points and a career best nine assists, while White grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
South Dakota:
Mooney led USD with 19 points and Hagedorn grabbed a team high five rebounds.

Inside the Box Score
- ORU shot 48 percent (27-56) from the field and 55 percent (10-18) from 3-point range. ORU was 6-8 (75 percent) from the free throw line.

- South Dakota shot 55 percent (27-49) from the field and 50 percent (7-14) from 3-point range. The Coyotes connected on 21-25 (84 percent) from the free throw line.

- ORU out-rebounded South Dakota 27-25, including 11 offensive rebounds for the Golden Eagles, but they led to just five second chance points.

- The Golden Eagles tallied 19 assists on 27 made field goals. The 19 assists match the third most this season behind 22 against Pepperdine and 20 against Fort Wayne.

News and Notes
- ORU is now 7-4 this season when out-rebounding its opponent after winning the battle on the boards 27-25 Wednesday night.

- USD shot 17 free throws more than ORU, and ORU moved to 1-11 this season when the opposition has shot more free throws than the Golden Eagles.

- ORU's bench out-scored USD's bench 31-16, but the Coyotes held a 36-30 advantage in the paint and a 20-12 lead in points off turnovers.

- ORU was 10-18 from 3-point range, matching the second most 3-pointers in a game this season. ORU hit 11 triples against Omaha and 10 against Oakland.
