Owens, Nzekwesi Earn Preseason All-Summit League Honors

ELMHURST, Ill. – Oral Roberts senior Albert Owens was named to the preseason All-Summit League first team, while reigning Summit League freshman of the year Emmanuel Nzekwesi was selected to the preseason second team, it was announced by The Summit League office Thursday.

Owens enters his senior season seventh in ORU history with 110 career blocks, and sits at 960 career points after averaging better than 17 points per game last season. Owens was an honorable mention All-Summit League selection in 2016-17 after finishing the year fifth in the league in scoring (17.4 ppg), third in block (37) and 13th in rebounding (5.6 rpg). He averaged 20.1 points per game in league play while scoring 20 or more points in eight of the first nine league games.

Nzekwesi was the league's freshman of the year after finishing his rookie campaign as ORU's leading rebounder at 6.4 rebounds per game, the first ORU freshman to lead his team in rebounding since Caleb Green. He had 17 rebounds in a game against Rogers State, tied for the second highest single game rebounding total in the Summit League. He had a season high 21 points against Michigan State and led all Summit League freshmen in scoring, rebounding and double-doubles. He had five double-doubles, tied for the 12th most among all freshmen in the NCAA. Nzekwesi is the only sophomore on either of the preseason teams.

Mike Daum from South Dakota State was tabbed as the preseason player of the year and his Jackrabbits were picked to win the league. ORU was picked seventh with 104 points, just 20 points behind Omaha.
