TULSA, Okla. – One inning proved the difference for the Oral Roberts baseball team in a 6-4 loss to SIUE Friday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium, despite getting seven strong innings from its bullpen.
The Golden Eagles surrendered all six runs in the top of the second inning and had chances for a comeback. ORU eventually closed the gap to two, but could not overcome the deficit in the loss, stranding 10 runners on base for the day.
Nick Rotola hit a solo home run to lead the bottom of the third before Cal Hernandez and Nick Roark followed with singles. The pair came home later in the frame as the Golden Eagles pushed back scoring three times in the inning and added a run in the sixth.
Quote of the Day
"You can win it in the first or the second just like you can in the ninth. We had a rough inning, but I thought our bullpen stepped in and gave us a chance. We answered quick; we cut it in half in a hurry and just couldn't get enough going late in the game. You just have to keep going. If you think about it, we had two opportunities, and the left fielder makes two diving plays. Every game comes down to three to five plays. Today they made a couple more plays than we did." – Head Coach Ryan Folmar
The Cougars tagged ORU in the second inning hitting three home runs as part of a six-run outburst. SIUE totaled six hits, including the first three batters of the frame, and sent 10 to the plate doing all of its damage for the game to earn the win.
