TULSA, Okla. – Stretching from coast to coast, the Oral Roberts baseball team is well represented in collegiate summer leagues as 12 players are on the summer circuit on 11 different teams in nine leagues.
Starting pitcher and recent draft pick of the Minnesota Twins, Josh McMinn, is off to a great start in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. The right hander is 3-1 in four starts spanning 21.1 innings of work showcasing the Golden Eagles pitching prowess.
Reigning Summit League Pitcher of the Year and NCBWA All-America Second Team honoree, Miguel Ausua, has picked up where he left off with ORU playing for the Brazos Valley Bombers in the Texas Collegiate League. He was recently named to the TCL All-Star Game for the West Division behind a 0.69 ERA in two starts.
Trevor McCutchin and Logan Michaels are teammates for the Wilmington Sharks, while Taylor Varnell joins the pair in the Coastal Plains League playing with the Peninsula Pilots. McCutchin has shown his versatility starting in the infield and outfield tallying a .338 batting average in 17 games and leads the Sharks with 31 RBI. Michaels is 1-1 on the mound in four appearances and Varnell has pitched in three outings and one start for the Pilots.
Harrison Smith and Alex Sevensky returned to their native states of California and Arizona, respectively, for the summer. Smith is competing with the Long Beach Legends of the California Collegiate League and hitting .289 in 14 games with six of 13 hits going for extra bases. Sevensky joined Nutty Buddy Black in the Arizona Collegiate League.
A pair of Golden Eagles made the trek to Alaska as Spencer Henson and Alex Schmitz get the chance to play in the Alaska Baseball League for the Matsu Miners and Chugiak Chinooks, respectively. Henson is 1-0 on the mound in four outings, while Schmitz has made 16 appearances in the field.
Daniel Kloehr suits up with the Arroyo Seco Sentinels of the SoCal Collegiate Baseball League, while Cadon Owens is playing in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League for the Xenia Scouts posting a 1-0 record pitching with a 0.87 ERA in seven appearances. Cacy Harper is seeing the field with COBRAS in the Show Me Summer Collegiate League.
