LUBBOCK, Texas – Oral Roberts senior Anthony Sequeira has been named to the 36-player watch list for the 2015 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award, it was announced Wednesday by the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.
Sequeira took the mound this year for the first time since high school and leads the team in saves (6), and has a 1.42 ERA in 16 appearances, the second best ERA among pitchers with at least 10 appearances. Offensively, the senior leads the team with seven homeruns and 82 total bases, pounding 11 doubles, the third most on the squad.
In the Summit League, Sequeira leads the league in RBIs (40), home runs (7) and is second in saves (6). He also ranks in the top 10 in hits (50), doubles (11), walks (26), and batting average (.345).
Among Sequeira's highlights this year; he provided a game-winning RBI double in the eighth inning and then earned the save on mound against No. 11 Oklahoma State. He also went 3-5 with two home runs, including a first inning grand slam and seven total RBIs against UALR March 24.
The award is named for the former Washington State University standout who achieved success both as a first baseman and left-handed pitcher during the late 1980s, and who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007. The award will be presented as part of the Hall of Fame's Night of Champions celebration, June 28-29 in Lubbock.
