LEXINGTON, Ky. - The 2013 Oral Roberts University volleyball team was honored with the Team Academic Award by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, it was announced earlier this week. ORU was one of 684 teams to receive the award across all levels of scholastic volleyball, helping the AVCA break their all-time record.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

The Golden Eagle volleyball team lived up to the ORU athletic mantra of “Building Whole Person Champions” by posting a cumulative GPA of 3.42 for the 2013-14 academic year. Then-freshmen Sofia Redden and McKenna Qualls finished with perfect 4.0 GPAs, while departed seniors Jessica Pancratz, Laura Taylor and Bruna Silva were named to the Southland Conference All-Academic Team.

ORU opens their 2014 season on Aug. 29, when they travel to Malibu, Calf., for the Pepperdine Asics Classic.
