SKILLMAN, N.J. - Oral Roberts University’s Parker Allen was selected as an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete, it was announced today.

The academic honor is the third of the offseason for the recent ORU graduate. Allen was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team and the Southland Conference All-Academic Team.

A management major and native of Hot Springs, Ark., Allen recently graduated from ORU with a 3.92 grade point average. He was also selected to the Southland Conference All-Academic Team last season.

On the court, Allen’s senior season was the most successful of his collegiate career. He went 10-8 in singles play in 2014 and 6-8 in doubles matches. He was a three-time Southland Conference Player of the Week honorable mention selection and was named Team MVP at the athletic department awards banquet in April.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).

Led by Allen, the Golden Eagles went 7-13 last season, a four-win improvement over the 2013 campaign.
